MixRift, a mixed reality gaming startup, has successfully raised $1.6 million in a pre-seed funding round. The investment was led by Outsized Ventures and Underline Ventures, with participation from SOSV and several angel investors. The funding round, which took approximately seven weeks to complete, aims to support MixRift’s efforts in developing and publishing mixed reality (MR) titles. The company aspires to create engaging and intuitive MR games, filling a gap in the current extended reality (XR) landscape. MixRift’s CEO, Bobby Voicu, emphasized the potential of MR and augmented reality (AR) as significant opportunities in the gaming industry, particularly as MR devices evolve into more user-friendly forms like glasses.
The raised capital will enable MixRift to accelerate its game development projects, targeting popular MR platforms such as the Meta Quest and Apple Vision Pro. The company aims to produce casual MR games that offer rich and enjoyable experiences for users. Voicu highlighted the importance of entering the MR space early to capitalize on future growth opportunities as the industry matures. The launch of new MR headsets has increased adoption rates, yet the availability of compelling MR content remains limited. MixRift’s goal is to address this gap by creating games that will drive consumer interest and adoption of MR devices.
