Moments after completing the Women’s 200-Meter individual medley race, the 21-year-old swimmer from Slovakia collapsed as she got out of the water.
Potocka was immediately surrounded by a group of medical attendants, given first aid and carried off on a stretcher, according to the Associated Press.

According to a rep from the Slovak Olympic Team in Paris, the incident was due to an asthma attack.
“Tamara Potocka is an asthmatic,” they shared in an Aug. 2 statement to E! News. “In the medical room she received an oxygen therapy and during this procedure she communicated. Now she will be monitored by doctors in hospital for some time.”
The incident itself unfolded during a live broadcast, leaving spectators, commentators and officials stunned, according to the Daily Mail.
