The transfer portal kept spinning for the Washington football program on Saturday night, as the Huskies added a veteran linebacker to the 2024 squad.
Bryun Parham from San Jose State announced his commitment to UW on X, and told head coach Jedd Fisch of his decision on Friday after arriving for his official visit, according to Greg Biggins of 247Sports.com.
Parham was a defensive force as a junior for San Jose State this past season, with a team-high 106 tackles, five tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, and 60 solo tackles, second-most in the Mountain West Conference. For his efforts, Parham was named an All-Mountain West Honorable Mention.
Parham’s breakout came as a sophomore in 2022 when he started 10 games and finished the season with 74 tackles, five tackles for loss, and three sacks.
His arrival fills a need for a UW defense that has been hit hard by departures, with Edefuan Ulofoshio and Ralen Goforth graduating, and many other Huskies either declaring for the NFL draft or heading into the transfer portal after Kalen DeBoer’s bolt for Alabama.
The Huskies do have a few key players returning at linebacker, as Alphonzo Tuputala and Carson Bruener are currently set to return for their senior seasons.
Parham was a three-star recruit and first-team All-State selection in 2021 at Long Beach Poly High School (Calif.), and spent the past three seasons with the Spartans under former head coach Brent Brennan.
Brennan left for the University of Arizona after Fisch’s departure for UW, prompting Parham to hit the portal and quickly decide to become a Husky.
“They were the first to call and reach out when I went in to the portal,” Parham said to 247Sports. “I heard from other schools too, but they were the most consistent and got straight to the point. I like the coaching staff a lot as well, they play the best players.”
