Brazilian architect Denis Joelson designs the new Casa dos Terraços Circulares in São Paulo with a juxtaposing theme on a forested lot outside of the big city. The name translates to the House of Circular Terraces and it is a linear home that is surrounded by curved gardens for a unique look. The house brings attention to the garden, which is designed with stone walls that loop around and overlap one another.
Joelsons speaks about the home’s design to Dezeen, stating that “The garden design takes inspiration from an ancient element found in different cultures, such as the agricultural terraces of the Incas, the elevated platforms of the Teotihuacans, or the Chinese terraces,” speaking about the six platforms around the yard. The terraces are made from the soil that was excavated from the lot to reduce the need for concrete needed in the landscaping process.
