Ground has been broken marking the start of construction on the new R1.9 billion Giba Business Estate in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), as land previously zoned for agricultural purposes opens up.
Located within Durban’s burgeoning Outer West region, the industrial property development will breathe new life into the broader Giba Business Park, according to developer Sultex Investments.

A sod-turning event this week marked the official start to the expansion of the light industrial and logistics development which according to government officials will see over 4600 long-term jobs for locals being created.
The development near Giba Gorge, located close to the west-bound carriageway of the Mariannhill Toll Plaza along the N3, is expected to have 22 sites for light industry, warehousing and the allied logistics sectors.
“The Westmead Industrial Park and the Mahogany Ridge Industrial Park lie to the north-east of Giba Business Estate, making this a natural extension of this sought after industrial node along the busy Durban Gauteng corridor,” the developers noted.

According to Shaaz Moosa of Sultex Investments, the industrial park will offer investors and small business much-needed development opportunities.
eThekwini Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda shared similar sentiments, noting that the development affirms the city as a viable investment destination.
“Catalytic projects, such as this one, are planned and designed to cause a corresponding and complementary development reaction,” he said.
“They are projects of sufficient magnitude to stimulate ongoing redevelopment. The Giba Business Estate is much like Cornubia and Riverhorse Valley to the north of the city and the proposed Automotive Supplier Park to the south,” added Kaunda.
“It is an important part of the City’s 10 Point Port City Industrial Plan, which will not only begin to re-industrialise the city but ensure continued sustainable economic growth for the region,” he said.
The industrial park is set to be tackled in two phases with the first scheduled for completion by July 2024.

Black ownership
The KZN development is expected to spur industrial growth in the region and is being spearheaded by a team of black professionals, according to the developers.
Nathoo Mbeyane Engineers and Re-Invent Property Development Managers are part of the development team and have been credited for the project’s commencement.
“Sultex Holdings is a black owned company with a level 1 Broad-based Black Economic Empowerment score,” the group confirmed in a statement.
“It comprises a group of local Durban businessmen who are collectively undertaking this prestigious project as an expression of its commitment to the eThekwini region. The substantial investment in this project is testimony to their confidence in the region,” the company added.
