A vehicle collided with a number of pedestrians in the city center, local police have confirmed
A car has plowed through a dense crowd of football supporters as they marched to celebrate Liverpool having won the Premier League title. Local police have confirmed that one person has been detained in relation to the incident.
It was not immediately clear how many have been injured in the incident, or if anyone has been killed.
Merseyside Police said a traffic collision between a car and a number of pedestrians was reported in the Liverpool city center around 6pm on Monday.
“The car stopped at the scene and a male detained,” the police said in a statement.
Videos circulating on social media show a black car driving through dozens of people in a large crowd. There’s also footage showing police trying to push the angry crowd away from the car, with some of its windows already smashed.

“The scenes in Liverpool are appalling – my thoughts are with all those injured or affected,” UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said in a statement following the incident. “I want to thank the police and emergency services for their swift and ongoing response to this shocking incident,” he said.
A 53-year-old white British man has been arrested, the Merseyside Police said in a statement cited by local media.
“We would ask people not to speculate on the circumstances surrounding tonight’s incident,” officials said, adding that “extensive inquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances.”
