A research group at LCI Barcelona is exploring the relationship between personal style and music for self-expression with Groovify, an AI tool that generates playlists based on appearance. According to LCI, Groovify “analyzes a simple photograph of a person to extract data such as the clothes they are wearing, their facial expression and their posture. With this information, a playlist is created with songs personalized for that individual.”
Groovify analyzes clothing styles by detecting visual codes and correlates this information with a broad music database from the Sonar Festival, spanning three decades. The AI-powered app also generates a rhythm and sounds that represent the look of the photographed user, and pays homage to vinyl albums with a fictitious cover.
