Architecture firm TAAC and interior designer Sara Skalli created the Casa Yuma hotel which is nestled along the seaside in Mexico. The hotel uses traditional materials including chukum, which is a finish that is crafted using limestone and tree resin. Casa Yuma has 25 rooms and the boutique hotel is right on Playa Los Naranjos.
Skalli owns the hotel with her two friends Camille Lambert and Tim de Belloy and it was important for the structures to use materials from the region. Skalli speaks about the design influence when forming Casa Yuma and how the use of chukum was to create “an ambiance that is both organic and sustainable. My main goal was to create an environment where elegance harmoniously blends with the surrounding nature while reflecting the warmth and authenticity of this unique land.”
