Canadian Solar (NASDAQ:CSIQ) said Thursday it opened its 5 GW factory for assembling TOPCon photovoltaic modules in Mesquite, Texas, with the capacity to manufacture ~20K PV modules per day with a 1,500-strong workforce.
Canadian Solar (CSIQ) already has received orders for the Texas plant, announcing a framework agreement in March to supply a significant amount of modules to renewables firm Sol Systems.
The company, which also has plans for a 5 GW solar cell production base in Indiana, has manufacturing facilities in Canada, China, Brazil, Thailand and Vietnam.
When Canadian Solar (CSIQ) first unveiled plans for its first U.S. production facility a year ago, it estimated the project would cost $250M.
