The Last of Us Part 2 Video Game Actor Addresses Potential Season 2 HBO Return

Jeffrey Wright opens up about whether he will reprise his The Last of Us Part II role of Isaac in season 2 of HBO’s hit The Last of Us television adaptation. The 2023 TV show was based on the first game in Naughty Dog’s celebrated PlayStation video game franchise, following Pedro Pascal’s Joel Miller as he escorted Bella Ramsey’s Ellie Williams across a dystopic, virus-devastated America. Season 2 will adapt the events of The Last of Us Part II, expanding the setting through new factions and characters.

As The Last of Us season 2’s filming continues, Wright has opened up about whether he is set to join production on the show any time soon to GamesRadar+ to reprise Washington Liberation Front leader Isaac Dixon, the character he voiced that led a new faction that emerged following the breakdown of society. Wright provided no explicit answer to whether he had been cast, simply telling viewers that he was open to returning if the opportunity arose. Check out Wright’s brief response below:

How Likely Is Wright To Reprise His Role Of Isaac In The Last of Us Season 2?

As FEDRA began to lose its grip on society following the events of The Last of Us‘ horrific outbreak, one such faction that rose up was the Washington Liberation Front, otherwise known as the Wolves. Beginning his career as a propagandist, Isaac quickly rose through the ranks and helped the group become the main power within the Seattle area, though skirmishes with the Infected and a struggle with the Seraphite cult kept the Wolves wary. Eventually, a group of former Fireflies including Abby Anderson, played by Kaitlyn Dever in season 2, would join the faction.

In terms of the likelihood of Wright being cast to bring his character to life in the show, the odds of the actor being cast are strong. Not only did Merle Dandridge reprise her role of Marlene in The Last of Us season 1, but fellow video game voice actors Troy Baker, Ashley Johnson, Jeffrey Pierce, and Laura Bailey made appearances in both supporting and cameo roles. As such, with Wright already being a celebrated screen actor, not only would his casting pay tribute to his work on the game, but expand the TV series’ all-star cast.

As cameras continue to roll on The Last of Us season 2, some viewers familiar with the games have been increasingly wary about whether Wright would be cast in the TV adaptation. With key The Last of Us Part II characters cast including Abby, Dina (Isabel Mercad), and Jesse (Young Mazino), many would have expected Wright to be cast early on due to the character’s key role. However, with Wright not ruling out a return, it appears that it may not be too long until the character’s involvement is confirmed.
