After the launch of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and the Dimensity 9300, the latest flagship SoCs from Qualcomm and MediaTek respectively, all eyes are now squarely set on the future Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and the Dimensity 9400. According to previous reports, both the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and the Dimensity 9400 appear to bring considerable improvements over their predecessors.
The leaker alleges that the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 is fabbed on the TSMC’s second-generation 3 nm process and features a single Cortex-X5 core alongside 3x Cortex-X4 cores. We can assume that the rest of the 8-core design is completed by four Cortex-A720 cores. So, like the Dimensity 9300, the Dimensity 9400 is an all-big-core design without any efficiency-focused cores.
When it comes to performance, DCS suggests that the “current” Dimensity 9400 test sample scores close to 10,000 points in the Geekbench multi-core test. If true, this is notably lower than the previous report of a Dimenstiy 9400 chip earning a score of 11,739 in Geekbench’s multi-core benchmark. Additionally, with a score close to 10,000, the Dimensity 9400 is in the ballpark of the leaked Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 result of 10,628 and is a whopping 40.6% faster than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 per our testing.
It is important to mention that the Dimensity 9400 performance leaked by DCS is of a pre-release sample chip. So, the final showing of retail silicon could be notably different. Therefore, take any figures listed here as unconfirmed and likely to undergo revision.
