Samsung is only just starting to deliver the Galaxy S24 Ultra (curr. $1,299.99 on Amazon). Nonetheless, DxOMark has already analysed the device’s display and compared it against leading flagships like the iPhone 15 Pro Max and the Pixel 8 Pro, as well as against the Galaxy S23 Ultra. While the Galaxy S24 Ultra may struggle comparatively speaking when it comes to its camera performance, DxOMark considers its display to be the best it has tested to date.
Achieving a rating of 155 points, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is said to outperform all other recent Samsung flagships, including the more expensive Galaxy Z Fold5. Likewise, eleven places sit between the Galaxy S24 Ultra and its predecessor on DxOMark’s leaderboard, although only one point separates this year’s Ultra from the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. By contrast, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is well clear of the iPhone 15 Pro Max and its score of 149 points.
In DxOMark’s view, the Galaxy S24 Ultra only struggles in three areas when it comes to display performance. On the one hand, the website observed that its unit managed involuntary touch inputs poorly. On the other hand, the Galaxy S24 Ultra also exhibited ‘excessively high brightness levels’ when watching videos but could look washed out when looking at the display under indoor lighting conditions. Still, a 2,572-nit peak brightness provides ‘good readability under sunlight’, while its new Gorilla Glass Armor glass minimises screen reflections. Unsurprisingly, the Galaxy S24 Ultra delivers accurate colour rendering, and handles frame rate mismatches well; please see DxOMarks’s review for more details.
