Monday – February 12
- Volatility watch – Options trading volume and short interest are still high on New York Community Bancorp (NYCB) and TeraWulf (WULF). The most overbought stocks per their 14-day relative strength index include Adverum Bio (ADVM), Super Micro Computer (SMCI), and Kaman (KAMN). The most oversold stocks per their 14-day Relative Strength Index include Sigma Lithium Corp (SGML), New York Community Bancorp (NYCB), and Extreme Networks (EXTR).
- Earnings watch – Notable companies due to report include Arista Networks (ANET), Avis Budget Group (CAR), Goodyear Tire & Rubber (GT), and Monday.com (MNDY).
- All week – Federal Reserve speakers will be out in full force. The schedule includes Thomas Barkin speaking at an Atlanta Economics Club Event, Neel Kashkari participating in an Economic Club of Minnesota discussion, Austan Goolsbee speaking in a Q&A format, both Mary Daly and Michael Barr speaking at the NABE Conference, and Raphael Bostic giving a talk on the economic outlook.
- All day – SeaWorld Entertainment (SEAS) will formally change its corporate name to United Parks & Resorts Inc. The stock symbol will change to PRKS.
- All day – Microsoft (MSFT) is expected to hold a business update event covering the future of Xbox.
Tuesday – February 13
- Earnings watch – Notable companies due to report include Coca-Cola (KO), Shopify (SHOP), Airbnb (ABNB), Marriott International (MAR), Datadog (DDOG), Molson Coors (TAP), MGM Resorts (MGM), Hasbro (HAS), and Biogen (BIIB). Options trading implies large share price moves for Upstart Holdings (UPST) and Lyft (LYFT) after their reports.
- All day – It is the FDA action date for Ipsen’s (OTCPK:IPSEY) Onivyde (irinotecan liposome injection).
- All day – OPEC will publish its Monthly Oil Market Report and the two-day IEA Ministerial Meeting will begin.
- 8:30 a.m. The CPI report for January will be released. The core inflation rate is expected to be up 0.3% month-over-month and 3.7% year-over-year in a slight deceleration from the 3.9% pace in December. Average hourly weekly earnings are forecast to be up 0.5%.
- 5:00 p.m. MGM Resorts (MGM) will hold its earnings conference. The casino operator could update on the commercial gaming license efforts in New York and give an early indication of how strong Super Bowl sports betting volume was for BetMGM.
Wednesday – February 14
- Earnings watch – Notable companies due to report include Cisco (CSCO), Sony (SONY), Kraft Heinz (KHC), and Global Payments (GPN). Options trading implies double-digit share price moves for Twilio (TWLO) and QuantumScape (QS) after their reports.
- All day – Hedge fund 13F filings are expected to pour in ahead of the deadline for reporting Q4 positions. Investors may be watching to see if hedge funds made any significant moves with the Magnificent Seven group of Apple (AAPL), Amazon (AMZN), Alphabet (GOOGL), Meta Platforms (META), Microsoft (MSFT), Nvidia (NVDA), and Tesla (TSLA).
- All day – Notable investors events include Williams Companies’ (WMB) Analyst Day and Uber Technologies’ (UBER) virtual investor update. Notably, Uber is expected to update on capital allocation plans.
- 8:30 a.m. The January retail sales report will be released. Retail sales are forecast to be up 0.3% from December after stripping out the auto and gas categories.
Thursday – February 15
- Earnings watch – Notable companies due to report include Applied Materials (AMAT), Deere (DE), Stellantis (STLA), DoorDash (DASH), Wendy’s (WEN), and Coinbase Global (COIN). Options trading implies large share price moves for Sunpower (SPWR) and Roku (ROKU) after they report.
- All day – Notable investors events include Datadog’s (DDOG) Investor Day, Otis Worldwide’s (OTIS) Investor Day, and Ford Motor’s (F) appearance at the Wolfe Research Global Auto Conference.
- All day – The IPO lock-up and market stand-off agreements executed by Instacart’s (CART) directors, officers, and holders of convertible shares will expire. Oppenheimer thinks the lockup expiration could end up being a positive share price catalyst.
- All day – The go-shop period expires on Restaurant Brands International’s (QSR) deal for Carrols Restaurant Group (TAST). Carrols traded just 1% below the deal price at the time of publication.
- 8:30 a.m. The January Producer Price Index will be released. Economists forecast a 0.1% month-over-month increase.
- 9:00 a.m. The initial University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment reading for January will be released.
- 9:30 a.m. Restaurant Brands International (QSR) will host an investor event with CEO Josh Kobza and Executive Chairman Patrick Doyle at the New York Stock Exchange.
Friday – February 16
- Earnings watch – Notable companies due to report include TC Energy (TRP) and Vulcan Materials (VMC).
- All day – REV Group (REVG) will pay out a special dividend of $3.00 per share to holders of record on February 9.
- All day – Caterpillar (CAT) will hold an analyst meeting with Jefferies.
- All day – Shareholders with Hawaiian Holdings (HA) will vote on the pending deal with Alaska Airlines Group (ALK).
- All day – Shareholders with Cerevel Therapeutics (CERE) will vote on the acquisition offer from AbbVie (ABBV). Cerevel traded about 6% below the deal price at the time of publication.
