Asus recently launched the 2024 TUF Gaming A16 lineup, which is a bit different than the 2023 range. For the newer gaming laptops, ASUS paired Ryzen Zen 4 HX chipsets with Nvidia RTX 4070. To compare, the predecessors went all-in on AMD, pairing Zen 3+ HS and Zen 4 HS processors with Radeon RX 7600S and RX 7700S GPUs.
While the newer models do deliver a performance upgrade on paper, the last-gen gaming laptops are still great performers. The good part is that they offer a much better value than at launch with time-to-time discounts.
For example, the Asus TUF Gaming A16 FA617NS laptop with Ryzen 7 7735HS and Radeon RX 7600S GPU is currently available at $799.99 on Best Buy, which is very close to the all-time low price of $729.99.
In our review, the TUF Gaming A16 Advantage Edition, which basically has the same configuration as the FA617NS that’s on sale, did reasonably well. We gave the gaming laptop a respectable score of 86%, meaning that it performed well in our tests.
But the thing that really stood out to us is the battery life. The gaming laptop delivers up to 20 hours of run time with minimum display brightness and regular load, which is a rare battery rating for gaming notebooks. You can expect the same for the TUF Gaming A16 FA617NS because it has the same 90 Wh battery as the model we tested.
Other good aspects of the ASUS TUF A16 FA617NS gaming laptop include a great touchpad, a decent 165 Hz display, a USB-C port with 100W PD, and competent gaming performance. You can learn more from the video attached below.
