Xiaomi has already touted the Mix Fold 3 as its most advanced foldable smartphone in terms of camera specs and performance yet, which will be packed into a new elongated camera hump that may or may not also feature in the upcoming 14 series.
On that note, the OEM now asserts that the third-gen Mix Fold will be at least as much of a flagship as the 14 or 14 Pro, thanks to the updated Leading Version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. It has officially been revealed to drive a new 2K 8.03-inch main display in the upcoming premium device, which will have a 2,600 nit max brightness rating as well as a 120Hz refresh rate thanks to E6 technology.
Nevertheless, the Mix Fold 3 is rated to have a dual battery system that will keep the smartphone on for 1.34 days per battery, due in part to optimizations conferred by Surge P2 and G1 co-processors. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun backs this system to keep the foldable’s main display on for up to 8.83 hours straight in a 500-nit constant white screen test: 52% longer compared to the Mix Fold 2.
Xiaomi also now touts the Mix Fold 3 as the thin and light foldable of 2023. Nevertheless, reinforcements such as various (“high wear-resistant carbon ceramic” and “1800MPa super strong“) steel types and a titanium alloy screen support plate, not to mention Gorilla Glass Victus 2, might prevent it from also being the most fragile.
The Fold 3 is also equipped with a freshly previewed “keel shaft hinge“, tipped to hold opening angles of 45° to 135° as well as a reduced gap with a crease rated to deepen by just 10 microns, even after 200,000 folding motions.
Then again, the OEM is still holding some key Mix Fold 3 stats in reserve, such as the actual capacity of those dual batteries and how fast they will charge using USB type-C (although it is now said to support 50W wireless charging). We also still don’t know how much a new Xiaomi foldable will cost, or how much RAM its SKUs will have, although these details should become apparent at the device’s formal August 14, 2023 launch.
