Sunday, August 5th has a brand new Wordle word to solve and this particular answer is sure to ruin some long-standing win streaks. A very uncommon word with an unusual spelling can easily throw players for a loop and cause them to waste their guesses just to get one extra letter.
There is an argument to make that knowing a Wordle word is hard does make the game easier based on the player’s brain thinking in a different way than they normally would. This is compounded for those that use the Hard Mode provided by the game which locks in hints so players cannot possibly waste guesses when running out of ideas.

Today’s Wordle Answer (August 6th #778)
The August 6th Wordle answer is POLYP.
Did you get it? We barely got it. For today’s starting Wordle word we used IRATE which provided nothing but incorrect letters. This is usually okay since we always have a follow-up to no clues on IRATE which is POUND. Using POUND as our second guess we locked in the ‘P’ and ‘O’, thus learning the only other possible vowel could be a second ‘O’ or a ‘Y’.
Continuing forward we tried POOLS as our third guess, this provided an incorrectly placed ‘L’ and the answer to our double-‘O’ dilemma. Our fourth guess was POLLY, checking for a second ‘L’ which was incorrect, and trying out the ‘Y’ which was correct, but in the wrong spot. This told us that the ‘Y’ had to go in the fourth position so we tried POLYS as our fifth word. This was a dumb choice since we already used ‘S’ in POOLS, but we did it anyway.
Finally, at the very end, and staring at all the letters we got correct, we figured it out, a second ‘P’. This scored us a Wordle win-in-six and a big sigh of relief for the day, that’s two tough words in a row.
