The Voice bosses forced to make a change to show rules after Sonia Kruger makes last minute plea
Sonia Kruger made an urgent plea to producers on behalf of a contestant for a last minute audition during Sunday’s episode of The Voice.
The rule-bending moment came after coach Guy Sebastian learned that singer Chris Walton, 53, was auditioning to inspire his 21-year-old daughter, Shanae, who was there to cheer on her dad.
Guy asked Sonia to check the rules to see if Shanae could get a chance to sing, after agreeing to audition.
Normally, coaches are not allowed to audition singers after they have seen their face.
Shanae’s audition went ahead on the condition that the coaches would not know when she would be appearing.
The drama began after Chris’s own audition failed to turn any chairs.
He then told the coaches that he wanted to show Shanae, who is his eldest daughter, never to give up.
‘My daughter’s a great little singer,’ he continued.
‘She kind of got down in the dumps a little bit about her singing, after a couple of knock backs.
‘But since I said I’m doing this and I started practicing at home, she’s gone out and bought microphones and everything.
‘I just want to show her, ‘Hey I’m 53, I’m having a crack.’

Guy, who appeared moved by Chris’ brave admission, urged Shanae to audition then and there.
‘Sometimes it just takes dad giving it a crack to show that you can do it, right?’ Guy told her.
While Sonia got on the phone to producers to check whether Shanae’s last minute audition could go ahead, Guy tried to calm the singer’s nerves.

‘And just remember, even if you don’t get a chance it doesn’t mean it’s just another defeat and then you give up,’ he coninued.
‘I’m just taking the heat and the pressure off ourselves in case we don’t turn for you!,’ he joked.
After getting approval from the producer’s, Shanae delivered a stunning audition, turning all four chairs.
Judge Jason Derulo gushed: ‘You hit it out of the park.’
