The Rolling Stones announced their new album title Hackney Diamonds on Monday.

The band’s record label put the advert in the Hackney Gazette for eagle-eyed readers to find when buying the publication.

The Rolling Stones currently comprises of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and Bill Wyman and Hackney Diamonds will be their 31st studio album.

They dropped a series of subtle hints that it was them behind the ad by using a tiny version of their iconic tongue logo to dot the ‘i’ in the brand name Diamonds.

The logo for the name of their recent 60th anniversary tour is also a colourful  redesign of the famous mouth.

In further hints in the advert text they name-dropped the Stones’ 1965 hit Satisfaction, Gimme Shelter from 1969, and 1978 track Shattered.

The font used for Hackney Diamonds is also the same as the one used on the 1978 album Some Girls.

The date mark included at the bottom also said established in 1962 in reference to the year the group formed.

On the advert which was published on page three of the newspaper on Monday – there was also a phone number.

If you ring the number a recorded message says: ‘Welcome to Hackney Diamonds, specialists in glass repair.

‘Don’t get angry, get it fixed – opening early September, Mare Street, E8. Register for a call at www.hackneydiamonds.com – come on then.’

The new album will be the first to be released since their drummer Charlie Watts died in August 2021.

Charlie’s publicist announced he had died at the age of 80 on August 24 2021.

The London-born drummer joined the then-fledgling band in 1963 after meeting Mick, Keith and Brian Jones while playing in rhythm and blues clubs.

Along with Jagger and Richards, Watts featured on every one of the band’s studio albums. He was widely regarded as one of the greatest drummers of all time.

Known for his deadpan wit, understated conversational style and love of tailored suits, his low-key style was much at odds with the flamboyant lifestyle of band mates such as Jagger and Richards.

He had one wife, Shirley, with whom who he married in 1964 before the band shot to superstardom. The couple, who lived together in a rural village in Devon, last year rescued a greyhound from an Oxford animal sanctuary.

Watts was due to tour the US with the band later that year as part of their ‘No Filter’ tour. But it was announced earlier in August 2021 he would not feature as he needed to recover from a recent emergency surgery.

Watts was the first long-stay member of The Rolling Stones to die of age-related illness.

Founder and leader of The Stones, Jones, died in 1969 from accidental drowning, shortly after being kicked out of the band.

Stones frontman Jagger marked the death of Watts by tweeting a smiling picture of his bandmate doing what he loved best – drumming.

Fellow long-term bandmate Richards also followed up with a poignant tribute showing an empty drum kit accompanied with a ‘closed sign’.

Watts’ London publicist, Bernard Doherty, said in a statement at the time: ‘It is with immense sadness that we announce the death of our beloved Charlie Watts. He passed away peacefully in a London hospital earlier today surrounded by his family.
