An alleged photo of PlayStation 5 Slim retail packaging has surfaced online following a slew of recent rumours about the unreleased games console. Seemingly appearing first on the A9VG forum, it is unclear whether the image depicts an early prototype or the console’s final design. However, its design matches that which @BwE_Dev described, which we have covered separately.
In that vein, the same software developer has since affirmed the authenticity of the picture, adding that they also have a video of the same console. Based on the image that has surfaced so far, the PlayStation 5 Slim has a new panel design with distinct slits on both sides. Sony has adjusted the curvature of both panels too, although the console itself does not look much thinner than the existing PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 5 Digital Edition.
Moreover, the PlayStation 5 Slim is said to have been assigned the model number CF1-2016. Based on earlier rumours, Sony will base the thinner console on a 5 nm APU that produces less heat than the 7 nm version powering current models. Apparently, the heat reduction will be enough to forgo the use of liquid metal without suffering any performance sacrifices. The PlayStation 5 Slim may arrive as early as next month for US$399. It is unclear whether this price includes a disk drive though, or if this will be an optional accessory.
