Rode has just announced the Wireless PRO, the latest in its series of compact wireless microphone systems. Joining the hugely popular Wireless GO II and Wireless ME, the new PRO, with its more advanced features, is geared squarely towards professional filmmakers, broadcasters and content creators looking for more control over audio capture.
The system comprises one receiver and two transmitters, sourcing audio from either in-built microphones or the included lavalier mics via 3.5 mm TRS inputs. The receiver can route these two audio streams (and an optional third from its own TRRS headset input) to a camera, smartphone or computer via USB-C or a 3.5 mm cable. Audio can also be recorded to the on-board storage.
The PRO has several features that make it ideal for professional applications:
- 2.4 GHz wireless digital transmission with 128-bit encryption for near-zero latency, interference-free audio out to 260m/850 ft (line of sight)
- 32 GB on-board storage for audio backup in case of wireless signal dropout
- 32-bit float on-board recording to capture large dynamic range without clipping
- Advanced timecode capability for easy audio sync in post-production
- GainAssist to intelligently maintain optimum output levels; safety channel to record a -10dB signal copy
- Locking 3.5mm lavalier connectors to prevent accidental disconnection
- Professional high impedance headphone output with level control
- 7 hours battery life on each module, 2 additional charges in charge case
- Included accessory kit: charge case, two Lavalier II microphones, furry windshields, cables, magnetic mounting clips and accessory case
Rode is an Australian company that started out making studio and broadcast mics, but steadily established itself as a favorite of YouTubers, streamers, vloggers and podcasters with its range of audio devices carefully designed and targeted at this fast-growing market. The main competition to its wireless mics comes from the similarly positioned DJI Mic.
The Rode Wireless PRO is expected to be available from August 29 at a price of US$399.
