Paw-some TV! Hilarious moment friendly cat crashes live BBC Breakfast broadcast – and viewers are loving the reporter’s reaction

This is the hilarious moment a friendly cat stole the show during a live BBC Breakfast report.

Earlier this week, reporter Dave Guest travelled to Manchester to film a segment on residential alleyways that have been turned into community ‘ginnel gardens’.

The broadcaster began the live report by waking through one of the alleyways, which had been commissioned by the Royal Horticultural Society.

But as he went to sit down on a bench next some potted sunflowers, the reporter was joined by a surprise guest.

After discreetly sneaking through a garden gate, a beautiful white cat ran over and hopped up on the bench for a fuss.

Taking it in his stride, Dave – who had been informing viewers of the RHS’ involvement in the project – stopped and said: ‘Oh, hello!

‘I’ve got an unexpected guest. Hello!’

Startled by the rest of the crew, the cheeky feline then looked directly down the camera.

Dave continued: ‘[The ginnel garden] went on show at the Tatton Flower Show a couple of weeks ago.

‘It was then uprooted and transplanted into this ginnel in Moss Side.’

As he said this, Dave’s feline friend happily rubbed against his back and then sat down on the other side of the bench.

He continued: ‘I’ll be talking to the RHS in a moment about why they’re so keen on ginnel gardens.’

Turning his attention back to the cat, Dave gave them a quick stroke on the back and said: ‘Hello!’

The live segment ends with the cat trying to get more fusses out of Dave as the broadcaster introduces the report on ginnel gardens in the wider Manchester area.

BBC Breakfast’s feline friend guest also proved to be a hit on Twitter – where viewers praised Dave’s handling of the situation.

One replied: ‘Cute. Very professional as he didn’t shoo it away.’

Another added: ‘What a gorgeous cat, just looking for loves.’

Meanwhile, a third joked: ‘They describe it as friendly, but it was more likely the cat was saying “you’re in my seat!”

However, this isn’t the first time a cheeky cat has made a surprise appearance on BBC news.

In June, royal historian Marlene Koenig was being quizzed by news anchor Sally Bundock when her cat jumped onto her lap during the live interview.

The expert appeared on BBC News at just after 5am UK time via a video call from her home in Virginia.

Just a few minutes into their discussion, Marlene’s tabby cat Fleur jumped up onto the historian’s lap to get her attention.

Luckily, Marlene anticipated her feline’s actions and caught hold of her cat and quickly placed them on the floor again in one swift move.
