The Sentient Amulet is an odd item that players can find while exploring Baldur’s Gate 3’s Adamantine Forge, deep in the Grymforge region of the Underdark. At first glance, it’s a seemingly innocuous item, but as soon as players pick it up, they’ll find it contains a strange and rather sinister secret. Players can be roped in, willingly or not, for a quest to help the spirit of a cursed monk.
To find the Sentient Amulet, players must have reached the Grymforge region while exploring the Underdark in Act One. This means players need to resolve the conflict between the goblins and the inhabitants of the Emerald Grove (which may or may not include poisoning a Goblin Party in Baldur’s Gate 3) and then taken the druid Halsin’s advice to explore the Underdark. This is a tough location to explore, and players will need to make sure their party is well-prepared.
How To Find The Sentient Amulet In Baldur’s Gate 3
The Sentient Amulet is located in a locked chest in the Adamantine Forge area of the Grymforge. Reaching the Adamantine Forge in Baldur’s Gate 3 isn’t easy, and players will need to have a well-balanced party with a wide variety of skills to explore it. The Sentient Amulet is located inside a locked chest on a small rocky platform at coordinates -624, 224, at the dead end of a path.
The lava in this area is a significant hazard, as it’s extremely volatile and will deal a lot of damage to players’ health. To cool it down somewhat, players should defeat the Lava Elemental that roams this area. This stops the lava from erupting, making it much easier to cross the dangerous terrain. One of the best tips for Baldur’s Gate 3 players is to keep an eye out for environmental details like this, as they can really make a difference when it comes to exploration and combat.
The Adamantine Chest is locked. Players who rolled a Baldur’s Gate 3 Rogue might have the necessary Dexterity to pick the lock, but other classes may struggle as it requires a 20 or more to pass the skill check. Alternatively, players can loot a nearby skeleton for the key. Before picking up the Sentient Amulet however, players should be aware of the consequences.
What To Do With The Sentient Amulet In Baldur’s Gate 3
On picking up the Sentient Amulet, the spirit of a monk cursed to laugh uncontrollably will appear. Players will need to pass a Wisdom check to resist the urge to laugh and fall victim to the same curse.
If players resist, they can opt to ask the monk spirit more questions, use Insight to find the spirit’s intentions aren’t hostile, or use Investigation to examine the amulet more closely. Players who don’t have these special skills should get Baldur’s Gate 3’s best companions to speak with the spirit.
Passing the Investigation skill check adds a Religion check; players can pass it to establish that the monk is a disciple of Lathander, god of dawn and renewal. If present, Shadowheart will urge the player to leave it.
The spirit of the monk will ask players to deliver the Sentient Amulet to his granddaughter at Wyrm’s Crossing. Players can opt to equip the amulet, which grants them the Shatter spell, Ki Restoration, and the chance to converse with the spirit, stow it in their inventory, or toss it aside.
According to Fextralife, players won’t be able to grant the monk’s request until they visit Baldur’s Gate. In the meantime, it’s unclear whether carrying the Sentient Amulet has any positive or negative effects. Baldur’s Gate 3 players should proceed with caution when deciding whether to help the laughing monk.
