With a brighter-than-average display, a plethora of ports and an outstanding chassis, the entry-level model of the Legion Pro 5 16ARX8 is worth taking a closer look at.
An RTX 4050 and a Ryzen 5 7645HX allow even newer games to run at solid frame rates and high settings. In our testing, we were regularly able to get more than 100 FPS with minor limitations (e.g. running games only Full HD). This places the Legion Pro 5 significantly ahead of many other competitors sporting the same RTX 4050.
The gaming laptop is thus an attractive option for casual gamers. Thanks to its colour-accurate 16:10 display, some hobbyist photographers and beginner video editors would likewise not regret purchasing this laptop.
Because Lenovo has also put together a relatively quiet notebook with moderate power usage and a generous cooling system, the Legion Pro 5 performs well as a work and gaming device in almost every situation.
Best performance isn’t always necessary
To get the most out of the Legion’s potential, it pays to delve deeper into the included Lenovo Vantage software.
Sure, we weren’t able to improve upon the already above-average benchmark results in most games during our testing. That said, it is possible to completely customise the fan curve, power allocation and critical temperature limits in order to significantly modify how this gaming notebook behave.
You can make the Legion Pro 5 run completely silently or configure it to suit your favourite game by substantially reducing CPU performance.
Though this takes quite bit of effort, the predefined performance modes and additional manual settings massively enhance the versatility of the Lenovo Legion Pro 5. The great specs also helps with the device’s flexibility.

I’ve been using computers since 1989 and an Intel 8086. I also remember the Internet before college and university networks were supplanted by corporate and social media. The fascination for the technical leaps and social effects never let me go. In particular, I am most interested in the classic PC – and hardly less so in the laptop, in which the components have to come to terms with little space and power. So it seems only logical that I have been writing technical guides and product presentations since 2015. My physics studies provide the necessary basic knowledge and understanding of contexts.

After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, I moved from Singapore to
Cologne in 2014 and began pursuing a career as a freelance translator. Much of my translation work
focuses on science, engineering and technology. My fascination with computers and mobile
electronics began when I was young. And I have fond memories reading countless tech and gaming
magazines. Working with Notebookcheck gives me the opportunity to incorporate my personal
interests into my professional work.
