Unfortunately, it appears that GoPro has now shelved all these changes. Instead, the Hero 12 Black will maintain its predecessor’s core features, including its 1/1.9-inch sensor that outputs at 27 MP and peaks at 5.3K/60 FPS. Likewise, GoPro’s next action camera will still have 1.4-inch front and 2.27-inch rear-facing cameras, as well as 1 ATM water resistance.
Purportedly, GoPro will distinguish the Hero 12 Black from its predecessor in two areas. Namely, the Hero 12 Black will last for 70 minutes when recording 5.3K/60 FPS footage, an increase of 9 minutes. Furthermore, the default 1,720 mAh Enduro battery should last 90 minutes if you drop to 5.3K/30 FPS or 150 minutes for 1080p/30 FPS footage, 10-minute and 13-minute improvements, respectively. Also, GoPro will integrate HyperSmooth 6.0 technology, a refinement of the company’s electronic image stabilisation.
In short, the Hero 12 Black will be a minor update over the Hero 11 Black. While the whereabouts of the rumoured 1-inch model is unknown for now, Quandt adds that the Hero 12 Black will be available from September 13 with a €449.99 starting price. Hence, this year’s GoPro Hero will price match its predecessor, which is unsurprising considering the lack of changes between models.
