Fisker recently held its Product Vision Day presentation, in which CEO, Henrik Fisker, gave viewers a look at some of its upcoming electric vehicles. One of the vehicles previewed during the event was the PEAR (Personal Electric Automotive Revolution), which is meant to be a small, affordable car aimed at city-dwellers.
Since the PEAR is focussed on practical commuting rather than race-car performance, Fisker spent much of the presentation going over some of the PEAR’s more unique features that make it better suited for city living.
The first notable thing about the PEAR is its compact proportions. Not only is the PEAR on the small side, its features are efficient. Anything that’s not devoted to housing people, luggage, or functional components seems to have been cut, leaving the PEAR with a short front end and a sort of squat, upright look, in general.
As an example of the efficient space usage of the PEAR, the cabin is pushed quite far forward, while the roof line slopes down towards the back of the car and terminates abruptly in a virtually-vertical line. To complement the compact proportions, the PEAR’s Houdini Trunk features a door — a rather narrow one, by the looks of it — that slides down into the bottom of the car instead of the hinged lid of traditional hatchback designs. Fisker says this Houdini Trunk design is meant to save space and allow easy access in crowded cities.
Despite its compact two-row form factor, the PEAR makes use of a bench seat in the front to fit up to six occupants. The PEAR will also be offered in a regular five-seat layout, though, which will allow the vehicle to accommodate a spacious centre console between the front seats.
When talking about the interior, CEO, Henrik Fisker, mentioned that the design team tried to maximise interior storage space, which is often at a premium in small hatchbacks. That’s not to say the PEAR is short on creature comforts either. The five-seater version of the PEAR will come with the same 17.1-inch, swivelling infotainment screen as is found in the Fisker Ocean. This large screen will pair with a Lounge Mode, which folds the front seats down and flattens the rear seats, turning the little EV into a tiny cinema.
The PEAR will be built on a brand new, simplified EV platform that is designed around reducing the overall bill of materials count. Fisker claims it managed to get the part count down by 35% in an effort to keep costs low.
According to CEO, Henrik Fisker, the initial development phase for the PEAR is complete, and a final production price of US$29,900 has been reached. US federal EV incentives should bring that price down further to just US$22,400, granted the guidelines don’t change before the mid-2025 release date.
