He currently serves as the CEO of Momentum Global Investment Management in the UK and will now also serve on the Momentum Metropolitan group executive committee and various Momentum boards, the company said in a statement on Friday.
Most of his multi-decade-long career was spent at Momentum, where he occupied key leadership positions and played important roles in multiple acquisitions, including large-scale business improvement and integration projects in many parts of the group.
Speaking on his appointment, Van Heerden said the role is a great new challenge adding that the experience he has gained over the years will enable him to use his skills to lead the Momentum Investments team.
“There’s much we need to do, with many challenges in a fast-paced changing world.
“I look forward to helping navigate these challenges with our leadership team and to helping build our aspirations and dreams into reality. It will be a great privilege to work closely with all our Momentum Investments employees to build more of what is already a great company,” he said.
The company also appointed Lulama Booi as CEO of its international executive committee. She will also be responsible for Africa, including Botswana, Ghana, Lesotho, Mozambique, and Namibia.

Booi also serves as a board member of the Momentum Metropolitan Foundation and the company’s iSabelo Trust.
Regarding the appointment, Booi, who joined the organisation 12 years ago, said exceptional individuals lead the portfolio of businesses she will be supporting.
Group CEO of Momentum Metropolitan, Jeanette Marais, said the company’s new appointments have excellent track records.
“Ferdi is a highly respected leader who has filled a range of executive positions in the group, culminating in more than a decade of leadership in the international investments industry as head of our UK investment business,” she said.
She said his executive track record proves his ability to see the bigger picture, provide strategic direction, and lead businesses to execute their plans successfully. At the same time, Lulama has a positive impact with regard to product development support, earnings generation, risk management, cash and liquidity management and capital optimisation.
“I am also particularly pleased that we appointed two of our executives to group Exco. This not only shows that we focus on growing our people, but it also enables continuity. They both truly understand our culture and the wider industry challenges,” she said.
