Fans fear for Robert Irwin’s life as son of late Crocodile Hunter Steve catches a ‘poisonous’ animal while wearing a pair of THONGS
Robert Irwin terrified his fans this week when he shared a wild video of himself catching a snake and cane toad in a pair of thongs during a camping trip.
The Wildlife Warrior, 19, shared an Instagram clip of himself fishing out a keelback snake under some wooden steps near his campsite.
The son of Steve Irwin showed the small black snake as it wrapped around his hand.
‘That’s so cool. Look at him,’ Robert said as he brought the animal closer to the camera.
The snake suddenly darted forward and Robert flinched, before he got a better grip on the reptile.
The young conservationist then showed that there was also cane toads underneath the boards.
‘They’re actually extremely poisonous,’ Robert said as he picked up one of the toads.
He explained most animals try to eat the introduced species of toad would die, but the keelback is one of the few native animals that can resist its poison.

Robert then took the snake out to the bush and still in his thongs, released it into the wild.
‘What a pretty snake. So, so cool. See ya, mate,’ he remarked as the snake slithered away.
Many fans were shocked both at Robert’s choice of footwear and his handling of the animals.
One commenter wrote ‘glad you’re wearing your safety thongs, Rob.’
Another expressed how Australian Robert looked: ‘Tell me you’re an Aussie without telling me you’re Aussie,’ they wrote, followed by an emoji of a thong and a snake.

Many other, mostly non-Australians were shocked that Robert handled the ‘poisonous’ cane toad.
‘Robert: *mentions the frog is poisonous* Also Robert: proceeds to pick him up,’ wrote one comment.
Another fan echoed this sentiment, while paying tribute to his father Steven Irwin: ‘”This frog is extremely poisonous” *let me pick it up for you* This dude is definitely Steve’s kid!’

While cane toads are extremely poisonous to ingest, they generally cannot poison someone if, like Robert, they do not touch the glands across their back that excrete bufotoxin.
Robert earlier shared another close encounter with wildlife on his camping trip last week.
He and his girlfriend Rorie Buckey recently had a run-in with a huge Huntsman spider.
The conservationist posted a video to Instagram of the arachnid walking across the roof of their tent and getting ready to jump on them.
‘He is about to molt. Can he molt somewhere else?’ Robert says in the footage.
Suddenly, the spider takes a giant leap from the tent and lands on the ground, giving the lovebirds and friends the fright of their life.
‘Oh my God,’ they both scream in unison.
Fortunately, the pair were in no real danger because despite its scary appearance, the huntsman spider is harmless to humans.
‘Just an average night at an Australian campsite,’ Robert wrote next to the video.
