Dr. Ranj Singh reveals he has been rushed to hospital before slamming social media ‘plonkers’ and anti-vaxxers for ‘jumping to conclusions’

By Jason Chester for MailOnline

Former This Morning expert Dr. Ranj Singh has revealed he was rushed to hospital on Wednesday, before condemning social media followers for ‘jumping to conclusions’ regarding the nature of his illness.

The clinician, 44, needed medical attention after being struck down with severe food poisoning, but the incident sparked fierce debate among COVID-conspiracy theorists and staunch anti-vaxxers.

Taking to Twitter, he wrote: ‘Unfortunately I had dehydration after a bout of food poisoning. Luckily I got great care from our NHS and was discharged home after some fluids to recover!’

He added: ‘Unfortunately there are some absolute plonkers on social media (Twitter) who think my recent hospital stay was something to do with vaccines.

‘It wasn’t. Honestly, get a grip!’

Singh recently discouraged people from commenting on the Phillip Schofield scandal as he encouraged them to be ‘mindful’ because he isn’t in an ‘easy place’.

Just weeks ago the TV doctor slammed ITV’s ‘toxic culture’ in an online outburst in which he claimed the ‘issues with This Morning go far beyond Phillip.’

Singh said that while he doesn’t agree with how Phillip, 61, acted after it was revealed he had been having an affair with a younger member of the team, he suggested that the former This Morning host should be treated with kindness.

He insisted that everyone needs to be ‘careful when we are responding to people like that, that we don’t go to far’, as he weighed in on the controversy that has been surrounding the TV star in recent months.

Speaking to MailOnline at the British LGBT Awards in London, Singh was asked whether people need to take a ‘step back’ from commenting on the scandal.

He said: ‘I never agree with trolling ever – I don’t think it’s acceptable. I don’t necessarily agree with what has happened with Phillip and what he has done, and as [ITV Chief Executive] Carolyn McCall has said, it was inappropriate, but I think we have to careful when we are responding to people like that, that we don’t go too far.

‘I agree it’s not an easy place to be for him, and we have to be mindful of that. He’s still a human-being and has feelings and it’s not an easy thing to be on the other side of that. I think we all need to all be a bit more mindful about how we interact with each other.’

Singh went on to say that he hasn’t personally reached out to Phillip and insisted that his previous ‘bullying’ claims against the broadcaster where not linked to Phillip.

He said: ‘I haven’t [reached out]– the opportunity hasn’t come up, but the last time we did see each other, it was perfectly lovely, and what I spoke about was nothing to do with him.’

It comes after the TV doctor previously slammed the ‘toxic’ culture at the ITV daytime show in the wake of the ongoing scandal into Phillip’s ‘unwise’ affair.

Singh, who left the show last year, claimed he was ‘managed out’ after taking his concerns to ‘the top’ of ITV, raising even more questions for bosses about whether they knew and when.

He said that everyone has been ‘lovely and supportive’ after making the decision to leave the channel, as he offered an insight into the response from fans.

Singh said: ‘Everyone has been super lovely. I wouldn’t say I was so brave, I was just doing the right thing, and that’s hopefully what I try to do always, but people have been super supportive, and that’s nice to hear.

When asked if any of his former colleagues had been in touch, he said: ‘A couple of them have done, but everyone has been very positive.’

Singh said he is a ‘good place’ at the moment and moving to the BBC has given him a ‘new lease of life’.
