According to the latest Cybertruck order reservations tally, 44% of its potential buyers have booked the dual-motor version, while 39% have opted for the tri-motor variant, and these may be precisely the options Tesla is going with for the launch. According to one insider account, Tesla has started asking employees who have opted for early Cybertruck deliveries whether they’d like to get the dual- or the tri-motor version of the electric pickup truck.
The source mentions that the launch is “imminent” and only a few weeks away which jibes with Elon Musk’s “end of Q3” Cybertruck release date promise back in April. There are a few other signs that point towards a Cybertruck launch in September, too.
For one, Tesla has been filmed loading multiple units on trailers and shipping them out of Giga Texas just this past week alone, as the parking lot there seemingly gets new production batches every few days. They seem heading to the Fremont factory while some stop for crash tests on the way.
Moreover, Tesla has reportedly been filming what could turn out to be the first Cybertruck launch ad up in the glaciers of Iceland. Locals have taped the Cybertruck surrounded by camera equipment there, or doing laps on the glacier fronted by a black Land Rover with its tailgate open as if for capturing footage.
Last but not least, the Cybertruck’s winter testing down in New Zealand seems to be a wrap. The multiple test units that Tesla sent down there a few weeks ago are reportedly now being shipped back and snapped as they travel loaded on trailers with covers on.
All of these clues lend credence to Elon Musk’s promise for a big Cybertruck launch event in September. The first limited batches are most likely to be delivered in October, coinciding with the rumored Tesla Model 3 Highland facelift release then.
