The beta also includes support for larger-capacity M.2 SSDs (up to 8TB) that can be installed in the PS5 console’s expansion slot. This enables players to store more games and apps on their PS5 and access them faster. Pertinent to some users, this update comes with much-needed accessibility features, such as the option to use a second controller as an assist controller, which can help players with disabilities or those who want to play cooperatively with others. Another accessibility feature is the option to enable haptic feedback effects while navigating the PS5 system UI with the DualSense controller.
Lastly, the new update comes with social and entertainment improvements such as the ability to request party members to start Share Screen, join games directly from notifications, and view new friends’ profiles, or the new 1440p HDMI video output, gamelists, and a comparison tool for 3D Audio and stereo audio.
The beta update is expected to roll out globally later this year, after Sony collects feedback and makes adjustments based on the beta testing. The update is part of Sony’s ongoing effort to bring more community-requested features and enhancements to the PS5 console.
