The DiskStation DS224+ is a compact 2-bay NAS solution designed to bring centralized data management to small organizations and teams. It features an Intel Celeron J4125 processor with integrated graphics, 2 GB of DDR4 memory (upgradable to 6 GB), and two Gigabit Ethernet ports. The DS224+ supports the advanced Btrfs file system, which offers data protection, snapshot technology, and file versioning. The DS224+ runs on the Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM) operating system, which provides a user-friendly interface and a variety of applications for data backup, file sharing, multimedia streaming, cloud synchronization, and more.
The Synology DiskStation DS224+ launched in August 2023 and was made available with an MSRP of $300. This is the same as the DS220+, which this enclosure replaces. For an Intel CPU, upgradable RAM, and an excellent OS, it’s not a terrible price to pay. Like most other enclosures, this NAS does not come with any drives. Users need to purchase compatible hard disk drives or solid state drives separately and install them in the DS224+. The DS224+ can support up to 32 TB of raw capacity with two 16 TB drives. The DS224+ can be purchased from various online retailers such as Amazon.
