Beyoncé’s very awkward interview with Richard Wilkins resurfaces as she snaps at him when he asks a question about her relationship with Jay-Z

An awkward interview between Beyoncé and former Today show star Richard Wilkins has resurfaced.

In the short clip, shared as a preview for Dickie’s Diaries program, Wilkins, 69, lavishes praise on the pop diva.

‘Beyoncé, a great pleasure. You know you’re in the presence of greatness and supreme talent when you talk to her. She’s such a great interview,’ he says.

It then throws to footage of a 2008 sit-down Wilkins did with Beyoncé. 

The former Destiny’s Child singer, wearing a soft green dress and multicoloured, sparkling earrings, beamed with a wholesome openness.

While the Entertainment Editor now claims the interview is one of his favourites, there is a feeling of tension after he asks Beyoncé about her marriage to rapper and producer Jay-Z.

Prior to their marriage, rumours swirled that the couple had broken up secretly in 2005.

The reason for their separation was never confirmed, but at the time there were rumors the rapper was having an affair with is protégé Rihanna. 

The power couple, who started dating in 2000, allegedly split around the time Jay Z scouted then-17-year-old Rihanna in 2005 and managed the launch of her debut single Pon De Replay.

And though the rumors were supposedly spread by PRs to boost Rihanna’s profile, Beyoncé ‘wasn’t sure what to make of the situation’.

The astonishing claim was made in an unauthorised biography by best-selling writer J Randy Taraborrelli titled Becoming Beyoncé: The Untold Story.

Despite their rough patches, the R&B superstars married each other in 2008, the same year Wilkins sat down with Beyoncé and asked about the couple’s relationship. 

‘Tell me if I’m crossing the line,’ Dickie says in the interview as he begins to ask a question about her relationship with Jay-Z.

In response, Beyoncé lets out a loud, uncomfortable laugh. 

‘Ah, you crossed the line, buddy,’ said Beyoncé as she let out a loud, uncomfortable laugh

‘Ah, you crossed the line, buddy,’ she says.

While the star is joking, there is an awkward pause between them, showing she was clearly not willing to explore her marriage further with the showbiz reporter.

Richard seems bewildered as he looked off camera to the singer’s handlers.

‘Really?’ he asks.

‘Yes, I don’t want to talk about it. You got to hear the album to figure that out,’ the singer says, referencing her 2008 album I Am… Sasha Fierce.
