Samsung touts its latest Galaxy Watch6 series as its most powerful sleep trackers yet, claiming that they can build personalized profiles complete with coaching based on in-depth health data analysis over time. However, there are devices linked to equivalent, if not even better, performance in this area: smart rings.
This may be why Samsung has become linked to the rumored development of the first-gen Galaxy Ring now. It is said to be at a prototype stage at present, which might affect the likelihood of its becoming approved for mass production soon.
The electronics behemoth is believed to ultimately decided whether to do so or not by August 2023, which might lead to a 2024 release announcement for the final Galaxy Ring product. That is currently bruited by “industry officials” as the most likely time-frame thanks to a need to get the accessory approved for functions such as the clinical-grade blood pressure monitoring of newer Galaxy Watches, which could tack 3 to 4 months onto its development process.
Then again, the Galaxy Ring could take an entirely different path to its purpose, which could be that of a VR/AR headset controller. The addition of such an accessory to Samsung’s also-rumored Vision Pro rival could indeed give it an edge over Apple’s “spatial” hardware in terms of hand-tracking, UI and UX one day.
