We’d venture to guess that among your favorite things in your home, a good number of them are from Amazon. After all, that’s the one place where you can get everything from trendy decor to multitasking kitchen organizers at great prices and quickly. Still, the online one-stop shop isn’t exactly the first destination that comes to mind when looking for furniture. But our editors will have you know that if you’re in the market for a coffee table, sofa, or bed that fits a specific aesthetic, you’d be remiss not to take a look through their vast selection — and boy, is it vast. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of tips and tricks that’ll help narrow down the search and help you find what you’re looking for (or the closest thing to it) in a matter of minutes. We’re calling this recurring guide, “How We Shop on Amazon.”
In this series, you’ll find the most helpful keywords to use in your search, the best storefronts for every need, and the most accessible styles for the product category in question. Because furniture is such a broad category, we won’t be covering specific pieces, like coffee tables and bed frames. Instead, we’ll go over different interior styles and how to find the best-quality furnishings for each one. Ideally, you’ll be fully equipped to find your apartment’s next statement-maker or versatile storage piece by the time you’ve made it through our handy guide.
Why Shop for Furniture on Amazon?
Contrary to popular belief, there are plenty of high-quality furnishings for every room available on Amazon. You can buy them from Amazon-exclusive brands and storefronts, such as the editor-loved Vasagle, or shop legacy home retailers, like Ashley, and receive their products quicker with your Prime membership than you would by shopping directly on their site. Later, we’ll go over our top-suggested Amazon furniture brands, but you can also find trendy pieces that strike your fancy from random vendors. Their names might be a jumble of letters, but you can always count on customer photos and reviews to steer you in the right direction.
We also recommend checking out Amazon’s general home products page, where you can search based on room, trending styles, and furniture categories. Other pros? Amazon products tend to come with easy assembly instructions (sometimes with hardware and tools included) and often include a wide range of color options. Really, the variety is hard to beat. And if you just so happen to not like your purchase, returns are usually a breeze.
When searching for anything on Amazon, keywords are, well, key. They’re essentially descriptors that are going to help narrow down the results, and they can pertain to a product’s size, style, color, materials, the room it belongs in, and really any other desired characteristics. In short, the right keywords will save you the time and effort of looking through endless pages of shoe racks and help you get to the minimal, compact, white steel shoe rack you want for your front entryway. When it comes to some of the most coveted furniture styles, here are some of our go-to keywords:
And don’t forget that certain keywords can lapse into different styles! For instance, velvet is characteristic of both glam- and boho-style furniture. Of course, brand names are also important keywords, so without further ado, let’s get into some of our top Amazon furniture vendors.
For this style category, we recommend Allewie’s polished pieces, especially if you’re looking for a new bed frame. They have many stylish upholstered picks, such as the one pictured below, and even some beds with hidden storage. Not to mention, Allewie’s products are super affordable.
You’ll also want to take a peek at Poly & Bark for sofas, dining chairs, and headboards that look ultra-sophisticated and expensive. This leather, cognac-colored couch is the epitome of modern living room seating.
Within modern furniture, there exists somewhat of a subcategory that’s even more minimalist. We consider Scandi- and Japanese-inspired pieces to fall into this group, and there’s no better brand to represent them than Yamazaki. Perhaps better known for their home storage solutions, Yamazaki also carries a few small, sleek furnishings we can’t help but adore. If you’re a fan of the streamlined look, you’ll also enjoy their shoe racks, compact side tables, and coat racks, such as this one.
Amazon Basics is an honorable mention that we like to include. Whether you’ve just moved into your first grown-up apartment or you’re sending a loved one off to college, their no-frills bed frames, coffee tables, and outdoor basics will take the hassle out of furnishing your quarters.
As its name suggests, Modway is a wonderful storefront for all things that fall under the umbrella of mid-century modern design. Try an unadorned headboard, a walnut bookcase, or this vinyl record display stand. We’ll bet you don’t own anything quite like it!
Another staple in this style category is Novogratz. They carry some of the snazziest futons around, and their offerings are quite budget-friendly, especially considering how trendy they look. We have no doubt you’ll have a blast browsing through their expansive indoor furniture selection.
Rivet is another solid option for mid-century modern style sofas in particular, but they have stunning pieces for every room of the house, such as nightstands, benches, and, notably, eye-catching accent chairs. This leather number is a prime example; its tapered legs, button tufting, and overall retro feel are emblematic of this design category.
You might hear the word “traditional” and immediately equate it with drab, boring furniture, but the Christopher Knight storefront proves that the right pieces will simply prove classy and timeless. Although this brand is currently popular for its outdoor furniture and carries a few different styles, we’re drawn to items like their Chesterfield sofas and this ornate tufted storage ottoman. Beautiful and space-saving? Consider us sold.
It’s no secret that we’re big fans of Ashley around here, so you can imagine how delighted we were to learn of their Signature Design by Ashley Amazon store. Shop pieces like customer-favorite couches, grand sleigh beds, and all-in-one dining sets, like the homey Caitbrook set. It comes with six farmhouse-style chairs and a matching table in a unique gray hue. Currently on sale, it’s perfect for larger households.
If there’s one brand that strikes the perfect balance between traditional and contemporary furniture, it’s Stone & Beam. They have both vintage-inspired and clean-lined pieces that are fun to mix and match. Whether you need new counter stools, living room seating, or office furniture, you’ll definitely want to hit them up.
We briefly mentioned that Vasagle is an AT-loved brand, and the main reason is because of their ingenious, space-saving solutions. Out senior commerce editor, for instance, loves this side table, which has two built-in outlets and two USB chargers. But what makes the table rustic is its dual-material construction and distressed finish. Couple that with the fact that it’s under $40, and this find is nothing short of perfect.
Walker Edison is perhaps more of a modern furniture brand than anything, but they have some hard-to-ignore rustic items that’ll give your space a charming farmhouse vibe. They, too, carry storage pieces that are just as pretty as they are capacious. Case in point: this makeshift island. As far as we’re concerned, almost every tiny kitchen would be better off with an addition like this.
Finally, those after a rustic aesthetic should click onto Best Choice Products. This is one of Amazon’s more popular furniture storefronts. You’ll find a variety of no-frills items that look timeless and modern, and a number of them certainly tap into that industrial vibe that’s been trending these past few years. We had to include this lift-top coffee table, which stands out thanks to its black steel and gray oak frame, not to mention plenty of hidden storage. Plus, it’s a steal!
You’re probably already familiar with Nathan James if you like the bohemian look. Known for well-constructed furnishings that don’t require difficult assembly, the brand has the breezy, chic, neutral-colored aesthetic on lock. We simply had to include this gorgeous bookshelf, which stuns with its brass frame and white wooden shelves. It would look right at home pretty much anywhere.
In finding the right boho accent chair, nightstand, console table, or whatever it might be, you have to pay close attention to materials. Whereas the colors are usually neutral, it’s the wood finish, paneling, and woven accents that do all the talking. Main + Mesa’s offerings are terrific examples of this, though they do mostly fall into the decor category. Still, you can find some lovely end tables and storage pieces on their webpage, including this charming little piece.
Whenever we’ve featured Furinno in the past, it’s been to showcase their space-saving storage shelves. But, of course, they have many items that also fall under the category of boho design. Take this five-tiered corner shelf, for example. We wrote about it to emphasize how it makes great use of corner space, but now we want to draw attention to its sleek two-toned design and the fact that it would make the perfect display spot for your plants, crystals, framed photos, and other decor.
Add some razzle-dazzle to your living area with the help of products from popular Amazon brand Kate & Laurel. We, for one, can’t get enough of their metallic bar carts, which are a must-have for any aspiring entertainer. This one immediately draws the eye with its gold-toned frame and mirrored surfaces; it’s just glitzy enough without verging into tacky! And with three tiers, the cart gives you plenty of space for all of your bar accessories.
For show-stopping sofas and futons, Mr. Kate’s storefront is the place to go. They carry beautiful velvet picks such as the Winston sofa sectional, which offers just the right amount of lounging space while still remaining small-space-friendly. Mr. Kate’s living room seating also comes in velvet jewel-toned upholstery, further contributing to that luxe feel. And did we mention how affordable their furniture is?
CosmoLiving also has some lavish-looking living room seating, but what caught our eye this time was their dining room collection. In addition to sumptuous upholstered dining chairs and barstools, we found this striking black marble table. Not only is it budget-friendly, but it’s also a solid pick for small apartments. Keep it minimal with neutral-colored seats, or jazz it up with brass-accented chairs and equally flamboyant tabletop decor.
